Activated Alumina for Adsorption
Activated alumina as an adsorbent is most commonly used to adsorb gases, liquids, and can be applied in both PSA and TSA units to remove H2O. Activated alumina can be used as a filter to remove contaminants from various feed streams, such as fluorine from drinking water and drying liquids and gases. Activated alumina, manufactured by Hengye, offers a high adsorption capacity while maintaining durability and is suitable for bulk dehydration and cryogenic air purification including air dryers, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon streams, nitrogen, oxygen, and much more.
Activated Alumina as a Catalyst
Activated alumina has an ideal surface area to act as a catalyst in processes where the reaction temperature has to be decreased for a reaction to occur. An example would be in the Claus Process where sulfur is recovered from H2S.
Activated Alumina as a Carrier
Given the high surface area of activated alumina, it also has many uses as a carrier where the alumina is impregnated with other compounds to perform specific tasks. A common example is activated alumina impregnated with potassium permanganate, which has the ability to remove harmful gases from atmospheric air.
