Refining
Petroleum Purification
Overview of Petroleum Purification
Coming from a wide range of feedstocks, hydrocarbon streams can be filled with various impurities that need to be removed before the streams can be further refined. While much of the water and sulfur species that were originally present have already been removed, molecular sieves can be used to polish the stream to meet specification and increase the overall value of the product stream.
Products for Petroleum Purification
HYD08B – molecular sieve
HYD08B molecular sieves is specially manufactured for the deep dehydration of ethylene streams by selectively removing water. This dehydration process allows ethylene to be further processed into petrochemical intermediates or plastics such as polyethylene. This molecular sieve offers low levels of ethylene co-adsorption while maintaining superior coking tolerance and attrition resistance.
HYD03C – molecular sieve
HYD03C molecular sieve is specially manufactured for the deep dehydration of natural gas and NGLs and selectively removes water from these streams.
Catalytic Reforming
Overview of Chloride Removal
Our chloride adsorbents are able to remove chlorides in catalytic reforming processes to minimal levels and prevent the corrosion or poisoning of costly downstream catalysts. Organic chlorides can cause issues in catalytic reforming separator and in downstream equipment including poisoning of catalysts, corrosion, specification issues, and can form into ammonium chloride (NH4CI) and hydrogen chloride (HCI). Hydrogen chloride can rapidly deactivate palladium, nickel, and copper based catalysts, and will react with the ammonia (NH3) formed in the catalytic reformer feed from nitrogen compounds. When operation temperatures fall below 100˚C, HCI and ammonia will form into ammonium chloride, which can deposit, corrode, and poison downstream catalysts.
Products for Chloride Removal
HYD10B – 13X molecular sieve
This chloride adsorbent is specially designed to remove organic chlorides from catalytic reforming streams that would otherwise foul expensive catalysts downstream.
Overview of Hydrogen Purification
In catalytic reforming, hydrogen is created as a byproduct, and is of high value in other refining processes. For reliable, clean hydrogen streams, refineries select our specialized hydrogen purification products, which remove water, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen, and methane to create an end product of high purity hydrogen.

Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units
Overview of Fluid Catalytic Cracking
Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (FCCUs) are used to break, or crack, large hydrocarbon chains into smaller chains, which are suitable for use in gasoline blending. FCC is the most common catalytic cracking process and involves a catalyst section and a fractionation section.
Products for Steam Reforming
HYZSM5 – catalyst
This product is manufactured for reforming and cracking methanol and steam to create hydrogen.
This is a specially manufactured synthetic zeolite with an MFI Framework that is used in FCC units.
Isomerization
Overview of Isomerization
Hengye offers adsorbents for isomerization processes to remove water and sulfur from the process stream. The resulting purified isomerization stream can then enter the isomerization reactor to allow the conversion of normal paraffins to isoparaffins. Isomerization is the process of converting normal paraffins into isoparaffins, which offer a higher value than their normal counterparts. Normal paraffins have a linear structure, which can be rearranged to create branches, thus forming isomers that have the same number of carbons, but have a different geometric structure.

Steam Methane Reforming
Overview of Steam Methane Reforming
Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) is a vital source of hydrogen for refineries and we offer a variety of products specially manufactured for creating high purity hydrogen streams. After the initial reforming reaction in the SMR, the steam undergoes a water-gas shift reaction, which converts carbon monoxide (CO) into carbon dioxide (CO2) and more pure hydrogen. In refining processes, hydrogen is used to refine crude oil to create high value fuels, such as gasoline and diesel, and can be used to remove sulfur from these hydrocarbon streams.
