Molecular Sieve

Molecular Sieve Overview

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A molecular sieve is a material with pores (very small holes) of uniform size. These pore diameters are similar in size to small molecules, and thus large molecules cannot enter or be adsorbed, while smaller molecules can. As a mixture of molecules migrate through the stationary bed of porous, semi-solid substance referred to as a sieve (or matrix), the components of highest molecular weight (which are unable to pass into the molecular pores) leave the bed first, followed by successively smaller molecules. Some molecular sieves are used in size-exclusion chromatography, a separation technique that sorts molecules based on their size. Other molecular sieves are used as desiccants (some examples include activated charcoal and silica gel).[1]

The pore diameter of a molecular sieve is measured in ångströms (Å) or nanometres (nm). According to IUPAC notation, microporous materials have pore diameters of less than 2 nm (20 Å) and macroporous materials have pore diameters of greater than 50 nm (500 Å); the mesoporous category thus lies in the middle with pore diameters between 2 and 50 nm (20–500 Å).[2]

3A Molecular Sieve Beads/Pellets

HYD03A is manufactured for water and moisture control applications by selectively removing water from the surrounding environment. The addition of 3A to polymer mixtures will create an adsorbent matrix that prevents the formation of bubbles and increases the lifespan of adhesives, paints, polymers, sealants, and more. This molecular sieve offers a high adsorption capacity in both static and dynamic adsorption processes.

  • used to increase the integrity of polymer mixtures
  • capable of removing water and preventing the formation of gas and bubbles
  • allows polymer mixtures to offer a longer lifespan
  • offers low dust and attrition properties as well as low gas desorption

HYD03B is specially manufactured Molecular Sieve for the deep dehydration of ethylene streams by selectively removing water. This dehydration process allows ethylene to be further processed into petrochemical intermediates or plastics such as polyethylene. This molecular sieve offers low levels of ethylene co-adsorption while maintaining superior coking tolerance and attrition resistance.

  • used for the deep dehydration of ethylene streams
  • capable of removing water to meet specification
  • allows ethylene to be used in other petrochemical processes
  • offers low co-adsorption while maintaining physical strength

HYD03C Molecular Sieve is used to dehydrate unsaturated hydrocarbon streams and selectively removes water from these streams. This dehydration process allows these hydrocarbon streams to be separated in cryogenic units or transported.

  • used to dehydrate unsaturated hydrocarbon streams
  • capable of removing water to meet most specifications
  • allows hydrocarbon streams to be further processed

4A Molecular Sieve Beads

HYG04DG and HYG04C molecular sieve is used for the dehydration of hydrocarbon streams and can selectively remove contaminants from both liquid phase and vapor phase streams. HYG04DG and HYG04C are capable of adsorbing molecules that are smaller than 4 angstroms in diameter, such as water, while allowing larger molecules, such as methane, to pass along to the desired product stream. This purification process allows the hydrocarbon streams to be further separated in cryogenic recovery and is more easily transported.

  • used for the dehydration hydrocarbon streams
  • capable of removing water to meet most specifications
  • allows hydrocarbons to be further processed and transported
  • offers an advantageous adsorption capacity

5A Molecular Sieve Beads/Pellets

HYD05C molecular sieve is commonly used in air pre-purification units to produce oxygen, hydrogen, and other purified gases by removing water, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and more from he feed stream. The removal of these contaminants is essential for compressed air systems and for purifying gas streams. In gas processing applications, Type 5A is able to adsorb certain mercaptans while still small enough to block larger hydrocarbons from entering the crystal.

  • can be used to create high purity gas streams
  • capable of removing water, carbon dioxide, and some mercaptans
  • allows gas to be further separated, processed or otherwise used
  • low cost, while remaining effective compared to 13X molecular sieve

13X Molecular Sieve Beads/Pellets

HYD10A molecular sieve is commonly used to deeply dehydrate feed gas prior to cryogenic separation by removing water, carbon dioxide, and hydrocarbons from feed gas. The removal of these contaminants will allow the feed gas to be further separated into the desired product stream. HYD10A crystals are shaped differently from HYD03C crystals are tend to offer much larger pore sizes, about 9 Angstroms in diameter. HYD10A molecular sieve is often used to produce oxygen or in cryogenic distillation processes to deeply dehydrate LNG and LPG streams. There are many variations of HYD10A crystals with most common being HYD10A.

  • used to deeply dehydrate feed gas
  • capable of removing water, carbon dioxide, and hydrocarbons
  • allows gas to be further separated or otherwise used in compressors
  • offers an advantageous adsorption capacity for a wide range of impurities

HYD10B is specially manufactured to remove chlorides from feed streams. This chloride adsorbent is ideal for removing traces of hydrogen chloride and offers a high dynamic capacity for HCI removal in commercial applications. This product offers a high equilibrium capacity and ahigh rate of chloride removal.

  • used to remove chlorides such as HCI and other contaminants
  • does not produce green oil or support the formation of organic chlorides
  • prevents harmful chlorides from corroding and damaging equipment
  • offers a high capacity and rate for HCI scavenging
