HY-B is a solid powder, which is insoluble in water and solvents, with the exception of caustic alkali and hydrofluoric acid (although it does not react with acid, alkali, or salt). This silica gel is nontoxic, tasteless, flame resistant, nonexplosive, highly stable in extreme temperatures, and considered safe for normal contact with beer and human consumption.

  • Silica gel has a large specific surface area due to the structure of its nanopores, which enable this silica gel to adsorb, within a matter of minutes, the proteins that cause beer turbidity. Removing these proteins can prolong the shelf life of beer by about 180-240 days and prevents beer from becoming cloudy.
  • Using silica gel to filter proteins from beer does not leave any residual impact on the flavor of the beer, or beer foam, since silica gel is tasteless and odorless.
  • Silica gel is often used to assist diatomite in effectively clarifying and brightening beer, and the amount of fine diatomite used to clarify beer can be reduced, respectively.
